‘Right to Information-2005’ is a legal act passed by the Indian Parliament on 15th June, 2005 with an aim to strengthen citizen’s right to seek information from any public institute and authority. According to the act any public authority, organization or institute are bound to provide information to the public and they should also establish a transparent and accountable work culture.

The present Act come into force from 15th June, 2005. In a way, the Act gives more strength to the citizens of India and fulfills their fundamental right to seek information.
All Universities and colleges established by law made by Parliament or by State Legislature or by notification by the appropriate Government or owned, controlled or substantially financed directly or indirectly by funds provided by the Government shall come within the meaning of a Public Authority under this Act.
